Project Runway’s biggest success story, Christian Siriano, is the only contestant to parlay his stint on the show directly into presenting at Fashion Week under his own label. Since then we’ve seen him have ups and downs as he grows as a designer in front of us all.
His inspiration for Spring was Mexico, and it came out in all sorts of subtle ways in his daywear looks. The color palette for one. The woven raffia decor on the shoes was another, that took them from after-thoughts to must haves.
In between the florals and the white laces that feel like standard issue Mexican styling, there were bursts of color with a sensual flare that brought to mind the architectural one sees in Mexican resort towns.
Some of the more intricate patterning looked like they were taken from Inca vases, while a set of feathered dresses heralded a suggestion of wildlife.
But where Siriano has always been the strongest is his gowns, and as his daywear hand steadys, his evening wear only seems to gather strength.
All of these floral adorned gowns once again hit the theme of the season while managing to be one of the more sophisticated takes on offer.
Remind me to sign up for a life where garden parties are a regular thing, so I have a reason to own and wear this. I look forward to seeing which celebrity gets their hands on it first.
